Our Volunteers

Volunteering at GFC is an act of an individual freely giving time and labor for community service. Many volunteers are specifically trained in the areas they work in, such as responding to SGBV Cases, education, or emergency rescue. Others serve on an as-needed basis, such as in response to rape and other SGBV Survival.

The Girls For Change strongly believes in volunteerism as a fantastic way of gaining meaningful work experience, in addition to developing skills and connections that can further professional employment. Volunteers are involved in decision-making across the organization. This means when volunteers contribute to the organization’s work, they have an impact that extends beyond their particular area of responsibility and helps guide the long-term direction of Sustainable Waterloo Region.

At Girls For Change, we focus on the needs of our volunteers first. It is important to us that each of our volunteers is engaged, working on what they are most passionate about, seeing the tangible impact on the organization, and enjoying a meaningful work experience.

  • To be part of an active community working towards improving the sustainability of Girls For Change
  • For personal and professional skill development, and opportunities to meet industry professionals
  • For an opportunity to meet new people who share the same passion and commitment towards the organization

“When we started Girls For Change originally, we were all volunteers. I think this particularly helped to create a culture that prioritizes the needs and input of volunteers, and we’ve all worked to retain this focus in the years since founding.”

I was immediately excited to be part of such a forward-thinking initiative. The team dynamics are incredible, whether volunteer or staff, everyone in our diverse team is allowed to follow their passions, to learn, and contribute in a meaningful way… I never cease to be impressed with how willing community members have been to contribute time and resources once they hear about our mission – truly a sign of Waterloo Region’s collaborative nature”

  • We’re always looking for dedicated and talented people to join our team. Take a look at our current volunteer opportunities.
